The * next to the word trans is basically a sign that makes the word trans inclusive. So it means that those who identify as genderqueer/genderfluid/agender/third gender/gender non-binary/all other genders can be included in the word.
The * is there so that people don’t assume that only trans women and trans men fall under the transgender category.
Though some people are educated and know that all mental genders that do not “match” the body of the person in question use just “trans” without the *, I feel it appropriate to use as long as it’s on this page.
